There are 10 different types of empaths who employ different psychic empathic traits. Some people are particularly strong in one area, while perhaps having weaker characteristics from others areas.
Some might have several strengths, while some have strength in all areas. I believe most true empaths possess most of the characteristics in some form or another. Especially since everything about an empath is of higher spiritual/soulful progress. Feelings are not limited because feeling is what Empaths came here to do.
No matter which characteristic you have, you must remember, these are gifts that render service. You came here to 'be of service' and being an Empath can be a difficult road, particularly because there is no way to escape, or turn it off. The best advice I can offer, is to recognize and embrace your strength/strengths, and work to utilize them. They contain your purpose.

Here are the 10 characteristics of an Empath:
Psychometry – This is when a person has the ability to receive energy, information and impressions from objects, photographs or places.
Telepathy – The ability to read people’s thoughts.
Mediumship – The ability to feel the presence and energies of spirits.
Physical Healing – The ability to feel other people’s physical symptoms in your own body (and often the ability to heal, transform or transmute them) Also the ability to sence illness of any type or the opposite, to feel a persons good health.
Emotional Healing – The ability to feel another person’s emotions.
Animal Communication – The ability to hear, feel and communicate with animals.
Nature – The ability to read, feel and communicate with nature and with plants.
Geomancy – The ability to read the energy of places and of the land – geomancers can feel the energies of the Earth. They can also get headaches, pain or anxiety before earthquakes or other disasters occur anywhere on the planet.
Precognition – The ability to feel when something important is about to happen (often this can be a feeling of inexplicable dread or doom)
Claircognizance or Knowing – The ability to feel what needs to be done under any given circumstance, often accompanied by a feeling of peace and calm, even during the midst of a crisis.
